It’s been very much a heads-down “making things” week here at Copper, so it’s nice to step back and spend some quality thinking time over a Friday lunchtime. Here are some of the places I tend to head to when my charitable batteries need a recharge:
Best blog for self development: Veritus Group
Richard Perry and Jeff Shreifels write mostly for campaign leaders about the big ‘calls’ that need to made when approaching fundraising challenges. By considering issues and insights in the round, they really help me build a better sense of where True North lies in my own thinking.
Best blog for strategic insight: 101 Fundraising
Surely the standout site for insight into what works in fundraising. Valuable most importantly for the community debate that accompanies its posts. Rivalled only by The Agitator perhaps, which also has a very useful blogroll. This much commented blogpost on Donor Relations from Giles Pegram is a case in point.
Best blog for industry perspective: The DMA Webpage
Ever since the UK’s Direct Marketing Association decided to run its front page as an aggregation of its member (and staff) thinking on direct marketing, it’s become a go-to place for an overview of the technical and legal aspects of modern marketing.
Best blog for rebooting motivation: Ken Burnett
Ken Burnett literally ‘wrote the book’ on relationship fundraising. Visually a horrible blog, and pretty dense, but at the core of Ken’s thinking is always respect for the donor. And that’s always worth holding on to!
Best blog for honing craft skills: Future Fundraising Now
Jeff Brooks’s blog is a model of good writing – frequently updated, with simple insights distilled into pithy tips and always offering clear and useable benefits.
Best blog for ideas aggregation: Fundraising Detective
It’s no co-incidence that many of the links above overlap with links at the Fundraising Detective. An awesome first source of web-connections on fundraising, and living testament to the google-search power of content aggregation!
