You may not have noticed but we’ve now changed our domain name from madeincopper.com to copperdigital.co.uk.
Although in practical terms it took our techie-types a couple of button clicks to switch over it was the result of a rather lengthy process looking at what we, as an agency, actually did. Throughout the process we realised two things; what we did wasn’t all about what we ‘made’ and digital engagement isn’t all we do.
Less making, more marketing.
When we originally started using the domain madeincopper.com the focus of our business was on making things, and making them well. Websites, emails, designs, cocktails, etc. The more we made, the more we got to know about what worked and whether what we were making was going to work for our clients. We then started getting more involved in the thinking side of our clients’ businesses and our clients got better results.
The other big change is away from calling ourselves a digital engagement agency. The more we thought through this we realised that digital engagement was just an element of our client work. It was quite a large part, but not everything. We recognise that our clients having good engagement with their customers, supporters etc. relied on having the right customers and the future success of our clients depended on those engaged customers then becoming more active and motivated. Digital engagement is part of a process that is necessary for growth, but needs to work alongside the other areas to be most effective.
We are conductors
Out of all this thinking came the revelation that what we do is ‘conduct digital marketing‘ for our clients. We bring our skills and knowledge of the big picture to the table and they bring their products, customers and objectives. We then conduct the different channels both like a conductor conducting an orchestra and also like copper wire carries digital signals.
In reality we’re not doing a lot differently but we felt that our image needed a minor makeover.
Working through this whole process we also applied our thinking to a fresh approach to digital marketing which we’re really excited about. It’s come as a result of how we and our clients work and the journey their customers take. We’ll be expanding more on this over time and updating our website to match.
